Ricketts Glen State Park
I got an early start and was parked at the trailhead by 7:00 AM. The Falls Trail at Ricketts is always popular, so I try to get started before there’s too much foot traffic. Having the falls mostly to yourself is something special and makes the early wake-up call worth it.
The initial plan was to photograph Adams Falls, but I wasn’t happy with the way the light was coming into the gorge. Instead, I decided to head across the road and take the Falls Trail up to where the waters meet. Since I only had 10 sheets of film loaded, my goal wasn’t to do the entire Falls Trail loop. I wanted to take my time and focus on the falls, rapids, and rock formations along the way.
I’ve visited Ricketts Glen several times in the past, and I’ve always spent most of my time around the upper falls along the main loop. This time, I wanted to do something a little different and spend some time with the lower falls. This section of the park includes Murray Reynolds (16'), Sheldon Reynolds (36'), and Harrison Wright (27') Falls, with plenty of rapids and interesting rock formations in between.
